The Best Family Photographer in Red Deer | Suzanne Taylor Photography

Best Family Photographer in Red Deer, Suzanne Taylor Photography won 1st Place in both the 2017 and 2018 Family Photography Competition by the NAPCP

The Best Family Photographer in Red Deer

The Best Family Photographer in Red Deer is a rather weighty title.  I feel a little embarrassed even typing that title, to be honest.  I am not someone who likes to flaunt or boast about themselves but hear me out on this one.  Yesterday (April 23, 2018) I was driving to a shoot with the Central Alberta Realtors Association (CARA), and my phone started getting noisy with a ton of notifications.  I am a 37-year-old mother of 4…trust me when I say I am not popular and unless I am getting a notification from Candy Crush…you usually hear crickets chirping.

When I got to CARA, I pulled into the parking lot and checked my phone.  I started reading about how well “Suzanne Taylor Photography” did in the NAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers) annual International Photography Competition.  I contacted my friend Beth from Three Cats Photography, and she did confirm that I had taken 1st Place in the Family category (which next to the Child category are two of the most coveted titles that can be won in this competition).  She also shared with me that I had merited twice in the category of Child Photography – not too bad for the Best Family Photographer in Red Deer.

Stating that Suzanne Taylor Photography is the Best Family Photographer in Red Deer was also reserved until this year when I won the 1st Place title from the NAPCP for the second time.  The first time Suzanne Taylor Photography won the title of 1st Place in Family in July of 2016 and in July 2017, took home 3rd Place in the category of Family in the annual NAPCP Image Competition. In summary, I have placed in the Top 3 the last three years of NAPCP competitions in the Family Photography category.  Not too bad if I must say so myself.

Best Family Photographer in Red Deer & The Importance of Pre-Planning

While the image of my daughter on the swing was captured during one of my oldest’s t-ball games last spring, most of my award-winning family session images happen because they were planned.  When you book a session with the Best Family Photographer in Red Deer, Suzanne Taylor Photography will send you a questionnaire that will cover all aspects of your upcoming photography session.  If you are looking for a creative photography session, the best thing we can do is plan it out and make sure that wardrobe, accessories and any other aspects that can be added quietly to the session can be.  What I mean by that is that props can quickly overtake your photography session.  If that happens your session images risk being focused on the props and not on the actual person/moment being captured.  If we can add a chair, a simple accessory or even just plan the colour of the clothes, it can add a dynamic flair to the images that will set them apart from the regular photographic images you see all the time on Facebook, Instagram and other social media sites on the internet.  The critical thing to remember is that these images rarely just happen – months of planning often goes into them.

The One in a Million Shot by the Best Red Deer Family Photographer

Sometimes even the best family photographer lucks out.  The picture below titled “Soar” was captured during my oldest’s t-ball practice in our little Town of Bentley.  My youngest would rather not eat for a week then sit and watch a sport she has no interest in, and luckily there is a small park just off to the East of the ball diamonds.  Now if you know me, you know I dress my children very well (well – at least the triplets – the oldest has his unique brand of fashion these days).  I dress them for any photographic opportunity and this day I was lucky that she agreed to wear this sweet little dress I had bought two summers ago that she just never really fit.  This beautiful child has no qualms yet about wearing a dress and moving like she was wearing jeans (if you catch my drift) so no activity or playing is off limits.  She scooted all over the playground but gravitated towards the swings, and while I pushed her, I got myself ready to shoot.

Now shooting a child on a swing is terrifying.  You have no idea unless you have done this how it looks when your child is flying backwards at you while magnified through a camera lens…or not and they are way closer then you think they are.  It takes a certain amount of skill and guts to capture an image like this – and guts.  Beyond that though, it is making sure the child is perfectly relaxed and at the angle, you want to photograph.  It is also making sure that there are no distractions in the background and trying to find swings that don’t have trees or homes around them in Alberta is difficult when you don’t live in the Country.  To be the best family photographer, however, you also have to time the image right to capture pictures like these.  This is what drives me to continue to shoot to win competitions – learning those little details that transform an image from “good” to “amazing.”

If you are looking for a photographer to capture more than just some smiles, I am asking you to please contact me at 403-550-9965 or email me at hello@suzannetaylorphotography.com so we can talk about a session for you.  Family sessions cost 199 plus product, and you must know that images you love of your family will only increase in value as the years go on.

We will never have today again.  We will never be who we were today ever again – and neither will your loved ones.  Invest in your memories…there is no better place to spend your money, and while you may not think that now – in a few years from now you will be thrilled you made that investment as your kids wave goodbye as they leave for the night with friends – or finish packing up their belongings in the car as they take their first steps towards total independence.

Warmly,
Suzanne
